Fx

This is the sandbox. Everything from the previous twelve lessons, combined into one machine. Oscillator, filter, delay, reverb, LFO, arpeggiator - all wired together in a signal chain.

The signal flows like this: oscillator -> filter -> delay -> reverb -> speakers. Order matters. Filtering before delay means the echoes are filtered. The LFO can modulate pitch, volume or the filter cutoff - pick a target and it wobbles that parameter for you.

Press play. The defaults sound good already. Then start changing things.

Try these combinations
  • Trance lead: Sawtooth, arp on, LFO targeting filter at slow rate - the cutoff sweeps open and shut while the arp runs.
  • Ambient drone: Sine wave, arp off, heavy reverb (size 4s+, mix 60%+), slow delay. Let it breathe.
  • Acid techno: Square wave, filter cutoff low with high resonance, short delay, fast arp. That squelchy, aggressive sound.
  • Weird territory: Crank everything to extremes. High feedback, maximum resonance, fast LFO, drift arp. The interesting sounds live at the edges.

There are no wrong answers. Every combination produces a sound that did not exist before you made it. Play until something surprises you.

After this, shape the full tonal balance with broad EQ moves in Spectral Balance.
